Best cheese pizza! We have been to several pizza places and this is the closest to New York pizza that we've had. Great cheese, sauce, and nice crust. This is our new pizza spot. You can't beat their Monday special either.

I don't know, maybe the pizza is the thing to get here. I have been twice and have not been impressed either time. Last week I got the special: salad, rigatoni with bolognese sauce and garlic bread. The salad was just kind of pitiful. Very small, runny dressing, completely uninspired. The rigatoni wasn't bad and wasn't particularly good- it was passable. The garlic bread was under seasoned and just meh. I don't know- it just seems one hundred percent "okay" to me. Not in any way a stand out. Much better Italian can be found in the area.

Really nice family/neighborhood establishment to have close by. The NY style cheese pizza ($7 for a large on Monday nights) is good, and the extended menu items, like linguini, etc., are surprisingly good for an order/pay at the counter kind of place. Laid back atmosphere with soccer on the TV and friendly staff all around help make me a regular.

Found thru Yelp. We wanted a late lunch and were hungry. Italian sounded perfect ... this place was an absolute find! Don't expect romantic intimate candlelit atmosphere but do expect inexpensive perfectly cooked home-cooked Italian food. Close your eyes and you're in a small cafe just outside Rome. Here it's all about the food. Feels like a back street take out - tastes as good as Italian comes! :-)

It's gotta be something when folks from the NY/NJ area tell you that this is the best pizza they can find away from home. And they say it with a smile! Having traveled through that neck of the woods, I can definitely agree, this is the best in the area if you like that Big Apple style... and who doesn't? Their regular Italian dishes are out of this world, too! Last time, I had the lasagna, which was extremely flavorful and quite sizable. The sauce wasn't 100% to my taste, but it was very good all the same. The crust on the pizza was a tad tough, but we also were there late last visit. When I lived in Columbia years ago, I hit this place up almost every Monday night for their $5 large cheese special. Nowadays, it's up to $7, which is still amazing given the amount of pizza you get! You can easily feed two people (probably four, really) for that much! It's a great deal, one you should take advantage of if you live in the area. We made a special trip up there just to try it again, and I'm so glad we did. Ah, how I miss you, Trattoria...

Stopped here after a soccer game nearby. It is hidden away in a quite shopping area. If not for Yelp, we would not have found the place. Our soccer tournament game got moved nearly 80 miles from the hotel we are staying, instead of nearby fields and everyone was very hungry after the game. Not to mention freezing to death from the cold. But, I digress. We went in and ordered our food and drinks and grabbed a booth to get warm while waiting for our food to arrive. While waiting, we've found out that this is a small family owned restaurant. The staff were very nice and the food came out very quickly. We started with a calamari fritti and when this came out, the first thing we noticed was the size of the portion. It was much larger than what we normally see at other restaurants. They were lightly breaded and tender. The warm sauce, which was more on the buffalo sauce than marinara was very good. We also ordered chicken alfredo, with the sauce not too thick or too thin. Rigatoni aburessco which was really good also. The final order was Scilian deep dish pizza with pepperoni and needless to say this was also very tasty. Yes, there were a lot of food for only four of us, but there weren't much leftovers. Maybe, they were all so good because we were all so hungry. Of course, that is a possibility. Nah, I don't think so! You may be asking, if they were all so good, why didn't I give them five stars? I could, but I won't. I will have to reserve that for an exceptional place. After all, I don't want cheapen the rating and believe the four star is very adequate. I am only sorry this place is so far from my home. We are playing in Annapolis tomorrow and yes, it is even further from the hotel than today. I am wondering, if, we will find another hidden gem. One can only hope, right?

Great pizza!! I'm a Jersey girl and we don't play about PIZZA!! Living in Maryland it's extremely hard to find great pizza!!

We recently were talking about places in Columbia that we missed since we left. Trattoria was #1 on multiple lists. Serving some of the best pizza around MD in a family friendly environment is this gem in Dorsey Hall. The owners and employees are very friendly and clearly passionate about soccer since it's always playing on the tv's. They offer daily specials and have a nice dessert case too with Italian Ices if you're looking for a treat. Miss you guys!

This place is a miss on everything. Their pizza tastes like cardboard and their calzones have a similar flavoring- plus burned. I'll give it a star for their tiramasu and another for their service-but thats it.

Wonderful pasta dishes! Will be back and try what looked like great pizza. Quality surprising for a place that looks just like a strip mall pizza joint!

  • C L.

Nice piping hot thin crust pizza - hits the spot. But, say no to the meat calzone - looks like a glob of rubbery cheese and mince meat. Service was non-existent, which I guess is typical for this place. It's not fancy. But, then again you're not paying for fancy. They seem to cater better for take outs.

Trattoria is a great family style restaurant. It's very solid, authentic Italian food. Highly recommend any of the daily/weekly specials. My kids love the spaghetti and we all enjoy the pizza. Great atmosphere, great food what more could you ask?

Whereas I once raved about the veal parm, it is now nothing at all about which to write home. The veal party just isn't at all good. I don't know what they've changed but it is nowhere near what it once was. I've tried switching to the chicken parm and it too was not good. Combine that with the terrible pizza, there is no reason for me to ever to back there.

Love their Monday $7 pizza and Tuesday buy pasta specials! Their pizza is fresh and pasta is not over-cooked. Must try if you live in the Dorsey hall area! You can't go wrong with their specials!

Not impressed! I had such high hopes of good pizza after reading the review. I thought it would be great, so I ordered 2 pizzas and a kid ravioli. They told me 15 min, and I was right on time for pick up, and it was cold!! It was on the counter waiting for me....not even on a warming tray. So I will say the slices were huge, but the flavor was so tasteless. There was no flavor in the sauce or the cheese. This was another pizza bummer for me!

I love the sandwiches and french-fries

  • Jeremy L.

Granted I was forced to get a plain cheese pizza, but it wasn't as good as Pizza Bolis. Some of the other things on the menu looked better, but that pie should've been better. Still, a convenient location and friendly staff will get me back for another round.

I ate here with my kids a couple of weeks and met the owner...he was very nice and the food was excellent, again! Good job guys! Keep up the good work!

Nope. Uh uh. Having heard that Strapazza closed and since the Clarksville Pasta Blitz is a little far for a quick fix (and now it's closed, too?), we tried this place for pizza. Nope. The crust was more like "bread," the sauce was flavorless and the cheese was even more bland that the sauce (and since I said "flavorless" about the sauce, just have to try to imagine a black hole of taste). Can't speak to any of the other dishes, but if it was between this place and not having pizza, I'd rather not have pizza.

Probably the best chicken Marcella ANYWHERE. All the food here is good and reasonably priced. You won't go wrong going here. Very kid friendly.

This is some really awesome pizza. Crust is perfectly cooked without a bit of char, but crispy and scrumptious. Monday deals are out of this world. Service isn't to die for, but who cares, it's a pizza joint! 10 bucks took care of myself and a friend-- fantastic! New go to pizza place in HoCo.

I tried this today for lunch. The restaurant was nice and clean, and the owner greeted me as I entered. I wanted to try both the pizza and a pasta dish, so I ordered one slice of cheese pizza and spaghetti with meatballs. First the good. The pizza is definitely one of the best in the area. The crust is thin and crispy, the cheese is tasty, and there's not too much grease. I will order it again. Now the bad. The spaghetti and meatballs looked really good, and they give you a generous portion along with two servings of garlic bread. Unfortunately, that was the best part of it. The tomato sauce was completely bland and didn't taste remotely like fresh tomatoes were used. The meatball itself was also bland, dense, gummy and seemed like it had too many breadcrumbs in it. Overall, I was unimpressed with the dish and could easily make it better myself. So I would give Trattoria a 3.5. The pizza is definitely worth a trip, but skip the pasta.

  • Stephanie S.

It was okay pizza, but really expensive! I think it was $28 for 2 large pizzas, which is much more than I normally pay. Definitely not worth the price tag but I guess it's better than chain pizza.

    (3)
  • J S.

Have you ever had that Chef Boyardee Pizza you make in a box? That is actually better than their pizza. The only positive thing I can say is that is was cheap.

  • Nick Y.

Excellent Italian on the cheap. Pastas are as good as the pizzas and all are huge portions. Expect to take home a meals worth of food (unless your obese and eat a lot).

WOW - here's all you need to know about their service. I call 411 to get their number and by my mistake, get the number of their sister location in Columbia (Kings Contrivance). I walk in and ask for my pizza and they realize my mistake. After the kid behind the counter suggests I drive over there to get my pizza, the manager/owner immediately intervenes and tells him to take my order. No sooner do I sit down than a fresh pizza arrives at my table, to the delight of my two kids. This restaurant had no obligation to me to make things right - it was my mistake after all - but the manager/owner made a point of wowing me by doing something he didn't have to do. AND THE PIZZA was EXCELLENT. What I didn't tell the owner was that we had just been at Anthony's at Clarksville, sat down in a near empty restaurant and walked out after we were ignored for 15 min by the waitstaff. Trattoria earned a customer for life.

Very decent spot for some quick Italian. Special added bonus Abe Vigoda works there. If you've been more than once you know what I am talking about. I've tried many of the items on the menu and all have been good. They have something called a "macaroni pie" that people swear by but it damn if it doesn't look strange. Their marinara is awesome and supposedly an "old family recipe" which could be, but I also believe the owner knows what the Columbianites like to hear.

Real Italians run this place and it shows in the food. Awesome Italian food, I love the spaghetti pie and meatball sub. Pasta, calzones and more. Well worth the trip.

Went here a couple weeks ago and forgot to write a review then, but after having a craving for it again, I decided to do it now. We went here on one of the ridiculously hot days (100+) and we still weren't alone in the place. We both wanted pizza and decided to share a Sicilian. The thing was huge and the crust was perfect. It was crisp, but fluffy and not dry. The sauce was okay, seemed like the same marinara they use on their pasta also. If they could do a sweat and spicy sauce like Coal Fire in Ellicott City does with that crust, it could possibly make the list of best pizza ever. The place seemed to be under construction, so there wasn't much to look at for atmosphere, but hey, the pizza was good and worth it. Definitely will be going back.

We used to like this place, but haven't eaten there since the springtime when we brought two pizzas home. The ingredients were bland, the crust like cardboard, and the pizza was well undercooked. It was so terrible our kids and I threw out an entire pizza and the remainder of our half-eaten slices. Perhaps they use different ingredients for their Monday take-out special, but we aren't willing to go back yet.

One of the best places for a plain cheese pizza in Maryland. Yes, the crust isn't the best, but the rest of the pizza is delicious. The dough is nice and thin with the perfect amount of cheese on top. Haven't tried the other items on their menu so I can't comment on those. 3.5/5

The pizza is great, but the italian entres are AMAZING! The specials are always changing and are always top notch. You can get a 5 star italian dish for half the price. Family restaurant atmosphere, but fine cuisine behind the counter!

The pizza here is fantastic. By far the best in the area. It's so good I've never bothered to have any of their other food.

I LOVE THIS PLACE. Escape the bland pizza chains! Where fresh & delicious pizza lives! Family-owned by real Italians! The pizza here is delicious - a mix of NY style and classic Italian. From the first bite, you can taste the quality ingredients used in the pizza. The cheese is superb and extra elastic-y. Fresh herbs give a subtle flavor to the pizza. The slices are big and filling. The restaurant itself is spacious and great for a sit down meal with a friend or a big group. The decor is homey and unpretentious. You know Italians own the place because there's a big, flat screen TV above the counter that's usually showing soccer. They serve a variety of authentic Italian dishes, but I always go for the pizza. I will get a side salad on occasion, which is always extremely fresh and delicious. It's a great value and comes with homemade vinaigrette, too. Monday nights they offer $7 large cheese pizzas. GREAT DEAL for a busy night to take out or eat in. Best pizza in Howard County, hands down. TRY THIS PLACE. You will love it.

Just came back from having dinner with the family. Trattoria has always been one of our go-to places to eat in the Columbia area as we found the pizza to be quite good and the salads to be particularly great. To say we are regular diners is an understatement. That being said, tonight's meal was less than appealing. Pizza was not up to the usual standard. Served lukewarm and tasted like it had been sitting for quite a while. Kind of tasteless to be honest. Salads were the bigger disappointment. We actually look forward to and crave their Greek salad with chicken. Kids also order one and split it every time. When our three salads arrived, we noticed IMMEDIATELY that the chicken was not up to the usual standard. Instead of the usual brown, sauteed look to edges of all-white meat chicken pieces, the chicken tonight looked as though it had been boiled. Definitely NOT all white-meat chicken pieces. My family and I spent half of our dining experience picking through the dark, grisly pieces trying to find a white chunk of chicken. It was awful. Nine year old daughter exclaimed that the chicken was "disgusting!" Lettuce pieces were also visibly brown and wilted. My husband went up to the counter and asked if the cooks had changed the recipe and/or preparation style for the chicken and the guy behind the counter simply stated "I don't know WHAT they are doing back there!" (referring to the cooks). So sad to see another one of our favorite local places in decline. Plan on not returning after tonight's experience.

I live in Ellicott City now, but have lived in NY and Boston where good pizza is easy to come by. That's not true in MD, all the more reason to rate Trattoria so high. In a place where finding good NY style pizza is virtually impossible, Trattoria Amore pulls it off. I try and go once a week.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
